What is Diversity Focus?

Diversity Focus is a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing the diversity of the Cedar Rapids – Iowa City corridor with the following goals:

  • Communication - Promote awareness, inclusion and that diversity is welcomed, necessary, and valued in the community
  • Findit! Connect to All Things Diverse - Findit! is an online repository of ethnic and diverse resources and services, for new and not so new community members
  • Program Enhancement - Advance new ideas and opportunities through interactive programs to enhance diversity and inclusion within the community

What is a "Crash Dialogue?"

"Crash Dialogue" is a program where you will view the Academy Award winning film Crash. After the movie you will be led by trained facilitators into an open discussion with small groups about the status of diverse relations and personal biases. The program runs approximately four hours.

What is the "Brown Bag Speaking Series?"

The Brown Bag Lunch Series is a series of dialogues led by community members, which explore and share real life issues that inform, inspire and enrich our learning about the dynamics of our community. Beginning Thursday, October 1, 2009. Brown Bag Speaking Series will no longer be monthly occurrences. The program will transition to a Quarterly Speaker Series featuring best-in-class speakers or trainers on diversity and inclusion issues and topics. Our goal will be to identify and secure speakers or trainers who address Corridor diversity and inclusion challenges.

What is a "Spanish Conversation Circle?"

The Spanish Conversation Circle offers opportunities to practice speaking Spanish every week one is Wednesday from 1:30PM-2:30PM at the Quaker Oats room in Upper Gage, located in the Gage Memorial Union, on the Coe College Campus; 1220 First Ave, Cedar Rapids.

You can click the PDF link on our home page and print one out or give us a call at (319) 363-3707 and request a number of magazines and if we have them in stock we can set those aside for you.
